I Met the Walrus

In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan snicked into
John Lennon's hotel room in Toronto and convinced him to do an interview.

38 years later, Levitan, director Josh Raskin and
illustrators James Braithwaite and Alex Kurina have collaborated to
create an animated short film using the original interview recording as the soundtrack.

A spellbinding vessel for Lennon's boundless wit and
timeless message, I Met the Walrus was nominated for the 2008 Academy Award for Animated Short and won the 2009 Emmy for 'New Approaches' (making it the first film to win an Emmy on behalf of the internet).

Combine Animation with the Real World

Here is an example that the artists combined the animated characters with the reality. This video was originally made for promoting a Chinese design magazine.

The idea inside is to show that the 360 degree creativity around an ancient town. There is no fancy skills but very smart masking and tweening in flash applied to the footage.

There is a strong contrast between colored cartoon characters and the black and white underneath footage.

Colors are more than a combination of red and blue or yellow and black. They are non-verbal communication. Colors have symbolism and color meanings that go beyond ink. As you design brochures, logos, and Web sites, it is helpful to keep in mind how the eye and the mind perceive certain colors and the color meanings we associate with each color. This animation cleverly uses two opposite colors to convey more than its literal meanings. Visit the website of this animation: http://www.makevisual.com/lamiedezoe/ .
